A Lignum Vitae  seam rubber with a decorated ball handle initialled J.O.  with turned and diamond detail throughout. Measures 12cm.

These objects were used by sailmakers to produce sharp folds in canvas-sails prior to sewing and to smooth stitching.

Lignum vitae meaning 'Wood of life' in latin and being known as one of the densest woods traded. Indigenous to the Caribbean and north coast of South America.
