She was born in Nantucket in 1762 and married Samuel Starbuck in 1783.

The Starbuck family were prominent in the anti-slavery movement both in the UK and the USA. Having been involved in the founding of Nantucket, members of the family emigrated to Milford Haven, Pembroke, after the American Revolutionary War and continued their successful whaling business.
