A whaling instrument known as a Flensing tool.

Flensing is the removing of the blubber or outer integument of whales, separating it from the animal's meat.

It was also known as 'cutting in' or 'flinching'.

Processing the blubber into whale oil was the key step that transformed a whale carcass into a stable, transportable commodity. It was an important part of the history of whaling.

Made from steel/iron blade and a wooden handle.

Blade is 27cm wide and 25cm high. 

Wooden handle is 85cm approx.

Total height 111cm

Postage will be a little more than usual as the item is over 1m in length.
