A Spanish Pillar Dollar recovered from the wreck of the Dutch East Indiaman - Rooswijk and dated 1735. It measures 4cm diameter and is a fine impression.
Otherwise known as 'Pieces of Eight' pirate currency. These coins were easily divided into 8 pieces and used to trade with.
The Rooswijk was built for the VOC "Chamber of Amsterdam" in 1737. On 9 January 1740, during its second journey to the east, it sank on the sand bank of Goodwin Sands, about 8 km from the British mainland. There were no known survivors.
Comes with its Certificate of Authenticity.
