No. 432

A scrimshaw carving set marked with the cutlers 'THORNHILL', this company ran until 1912. We are thinking these are mid 19th century by the style of the work on the teeth. To the front the knife depicts a ship with sails furled and the four pronged fork with sails billowing, both bordered with laurel leaves. The reverse side of the fork depicts three blowing whales. Both fitted with a patterned silver cuff. Knife measures 53.5cm long and fork 39cm.
