A French (or French speaking country) brass pocket sundial and compass with hinged gnomon for portability.
The Cardinal directions shown on the compass are N,E,S and O - (Ouest) instead of W.
It has 48 degrees (the degree sign is engraved not the word) 50' (minutes) engraved beneath the compass on the brass.
This could correspond to the place where the sundial was set up but it isn't a full co-ordinate so am puzzled!
