An early scrimshaw whale tooth scrimmed to both sides with good patina and dated 1847.

The front shows a three masted Man of War with the gunports  etched out in 3D. Several flags etched on aswell which I have showed in the images. The reverse shows a 5 masted ship, again with 3D gunports, flags and along the top of the tooth is the legends ' Mq. J. 20 . 1847' .

Measures 12.5cm x 4cm x 2.5cm.
