No. 468

A whale tooth mounted on a wooden plinth and signed 'Othon' depicting a side on view of a sailing ship. Measures 12cm x 4.5cm.

Othon we believe to be Azorean scrimshander Othon Rosa da Silveira, who worked for the famous scrimshander Frank Barcelos in New Bedford before becoming famous in his own right working full time at the art.

His work is represented in the Flores Museum in the Gomes Vieira collection, Azores.
