No.466

A whaling whale tooth mounted on wood but not attached measuring 13.5cm x 5cm.

Very recognisable work on this tooth depicting an upturned harpooned whale alongside a whaling boat and its crew signed 'cesar' to the bottom right.

We believe this work to be by Azorean scrimshander Cesar Antonio Medeiros who was married to scrimshander Ines Maria Alves Soares, niece and pupil of scrimshander Manuel Vieira Soares.

His work is represented in the Flores museum in the Gomes Vieira collection, Azores.
