A cut off whale tooth commemorating the whaling barque 'Emily Downing' which was built in Port Arthur, Hobart in 1841 by convicts. Inscribed on the tooth 'Brq EMILY DOWNING. CPT J.SCANNON. Last voyage Oct 1882'.  Nicely scrimmed with anchors and rope to border the ship in the centre. She became a whaler in 1858 and took her last voyage as a whaler in 1882 under the captaincy of a J. Scannon.

It has a slit cut out at the top.

Measures 12cm long x 8cm high x 4.5cm wide.
