A whalebone walking cane, the shaft carved with a wrythen or rope twist and a plain section to the tip. The head a superbly carved fist clutching a snake, a cuff and a small baleen collar.

The whalebone used for canes and umbrellas is believed to be from the lower jaw, another by product after extracting the teeth.

Measures 85cm in length. Fist 3cm wide.
