No.362

An exquisite piece of scrimshaw with intensive work. To the front an American whaling ship with four smaller whaling boats and whales to the foreground. Encircled at the base with intricate foliage scrolls and to the tip a shield and star and divided down the sides with a chequer border.

To the reverse, like it is telling a story, an upturned whaling boat and crew held in the whales mouth with the motto ESTEEM THE GIVER. Top class workmanship.

A huge whale tooth weighing 785g and measuring 17 x 8 x 5cm.
