A 20th Century Salvaged earthenware Royal Navy Mess soup bowl Number 26.
Makers mark to the underside reading ' W T COPELAND & SONS. STOKE ON TRENT. ENGLAND'
The previous owner of this plate who was also a Nautical dealer claims this came from a wreck off Gibraltar. The underside of the bowl has remnants of barnacles on it.
Measures 23.5cm diameter.
This bowl can be dated to being manufactured 1891 - 1905, the blue ring done on a pottery wheel but the number 26 would have been hand painted.
Belonging to Mess Number 26 aboard a Victorian naval ship.
No chips or cracks, has crazing all over from the seabed.
