A mahogany carved Launching box housing an intricately carved gavel for the launch of Motor Vessel Welsh City.

The box with bevelled lid, brass hinges, dark red velvet inside, carved throughout and fish feet. The plaque to the underside of the lid reads 'UPPER CLYDE SHIPBUILDERS LTD. GOVAN DIVISION. M.V WELSH CITY. LAUNCHED BY. MRS L.E. HOWELLS. 28TH MARCH 1968'

She was built at the Fairfield yard and her first owner was Reardon Smith Line Ltd, Bideford - Sir William Reardon Smith & Sons managers.

Light wood turned gavel flanked with gold coloured bands. Leaf design to the heads. A flag with the letter S inside to one side and an emblem cross to the other. The turned handle carved too with flowers and hatching. The gold bands also have the legends 'UPPER CLYDE SHIPBUILDERS LTD. GOVAN DIVISION. M.V WELSH CITY. LAUNCHED 28TH MARCH 1968'.
