An Eight Reale or Pillar dollar dated 1738 from the Phillip V Spanish reign. These are known in pirate folklore as a 'piece of eight'.
Mounted in rope twist and made into a brooch.
Comes with a certificate of authenticity that it was recovered from the Dutch East Indiaman 'Hollandia' wreck which was sunk in 1743.
Originally sold at a wreck auction in 1975.
