A Fowler's half penny token. The obverse has a bust of Neptune with a trident and the legends 'HALFPENNY'. The reverse has four men in a boat, one in the bows harpooning a whale with the legends 'PAYABLE AT I.FOWLER'S' and 'WHALE FISHERY 1794'. John Fowler was an oil merchant and tin plate worker at 78 Long Acre, London. Diameter 28mm. This was used as a trade token. No other tin plate merchants seemed to issue tokens.
