A painted brass badge M.M.S 1685 and silver salver M.M.S 87.

 

The British Royal Navy operated large numbers of small Motor Minesweepers during the Second World War, in two major classes of wooden construction to defy the German magnetic mines.

 

The badge M.M.S 1685 with crown top and rope twist border and Mickey Mouse centre. Mickey Mouse becoming the nickname for Motor Minesweepers from the initials MMS. Badge measures 25.5cm high x 17.5cm at widest point.

 

Coastal minesweeper. The silver salver 'M.M.S 87. Launched Wivenhoe 30th May 1942' being a launching commemorative. Square shaped outline with scalloped edging, on four splayed scroll feet. With four hallmarks and inscribed to the reverse 'A. HEASMAN & SON. COLCHESTER'. Measures 19cm wide.
