A working 20th Century 'stick' barometer by the maker A. Carter, Exeter.
Alfred Carter was an optician and scientific instrument supplier based at 252 High street, Exeter during the late 19th and early 20th Century. He is listed in the local directory of the time as trading in 1902.
Oak cased with square bulb cover at the base decorated with shields with reverse glass painted vernier plates signed as above.
Rectangular bevelled glass bezel protecting the mechanism, adjustment knobs and thermometer reading in Centigrade and Fahrenheit.
This is very much like the famous Fitzroy barometer.
