An Art Deco rectangular Chrome cabin clock by the renowned makers Henry Browne & Sons Ltd produced for senior officers quarters.

The sleek polished chrome geometric design has a silver dial and black baton numerals within a bevelled hinged case.

We would date this clock around the 1930's - 40's which was the height of the Art deco design and the expansion of the Athel Line fleet.

The Athel Line was a British merchant shipping company that specialised in a unique cargo of Molasses. Operating primarily out of Liverpool she was a global shipping arm for United Molasses Co Ltd.

When the war broke out Athel Line was called into military service, as they were built to carry thick liquid this was easily converted to carry aviation fuel, oil or petroleum. Of the 32 vessels owned at the time 22 were torpedoed or sunk by the enemy.

Clock measures 25cm x 18 x 9cm deep and winds and ticks away keeping good time.
