An early 20th Century embossed and engraved copper commemorative memorial plaque headed 'ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1910-1912' to the top panels. With four scenes from the 'Terra Nova' expedition quartered on a central rectangular area. The scenes depict from left to right the ship, the polar team man hauling a sledge, the five man team at the Pole, the burial place of the team and centrally the motif of the teams ships cat 'Nigger'. The Polar team consisted of Oates, Scott, Bowers, Wilson and Evans as embossed around the edges of this plaque, the corners depicting Scott, his wife Kathleen, their son Peter and another view of the burial monument.
All of the polar scenes depicted here are based on photographs published in issues of the Daily Mirror circa 1912 who negotiated exclusive rights before Captain Scotts departure.
The team of Polar explorers fate was sealed in 1912.
