A rare 19th Century transfer printed stoneware Naval meat platter.

Quite probably a naval Mess meat draining platter with basin and draining canals to the centre.

With a central anchor and crown design, as so much Mess ware was, lettered 'MARINE' to a banner atop with laurel and oak leaf wreath below and rope twist border.

The reverse has the makers marks for 'DAVENPORT', 'LONGPORT', 'STAFFORD're', '30 CANNING PLACE, LIVERPOOL', 82 FLEET STREET, LONDON'. with anchor atop the makers cartouche.

Measures 43cm x 33cm x 5cm high. Weighs just shy of 2.5kg.
