A plaque of the paddlesteamer 'Clarence' probably made for the Captain/Master of the vessel. This vessel was operated on the service between London and Edinburgh. Manufactured in Hamburg, Germany in 1836.
12" wide by 8" high
In 1847, part of St Katherine's dock, London was leased for the General Steam Navigation Company's use and the first screw proppeled vessel entered service in 1853, the earlier vessels being paddle steamers.
