Walrus scrimshaw
Item Notes:
An exquisite example of scrimshaw workmanship done on an early walrus tooth. It measures 20" long and 2" at the silver mount end. It is engraved on the mount 'Dec 1875, Totsiens South Africa', also some initials 'PJB from ICH?'. I would think this was scrimmed from 1970-2000. There is always a debate about age with these items as early scrimmed teeth are very naive. More recent workmanship is very finely finished with fantastic detail. The age of this particular tooth is not in question.
