George 111 presentation cup

Item Notes:
Here we have a large presentation Vase on pedestal foot, decorated with part fluting chased friezes of foilage and applied festoons of flowers The front set with an oval cartouche depicting a Royal Naval sailing ship engaging the enemy. The back with a plain oval plaque inscribed
''To Captain John Maclean, Commander of the ship Duke Of Bucleugh, of London in testomony and as a memorial of his distinguished bravery and good conduct, having in two separate engagements, the one on the 7th October 1794 the other on the 11th March 1795, in both of which he fought with a force far inferior to that of the enemy, saved the above ship from being captured by the French. This Cup is presented with all the gratitude and esteem by his obliged servents John and Alexander Anderson."
Gilt interior . Crested by the famous and celebrated William Holmes London 1795 . 13.5 " Tall . Lacking lid which is still being sought. A beautiful looking Cup.
THIS ITEM WAS STOLEN FROM AN ANTIQUES FAIR I WAS EXHIBITING AT. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF RECOVERING IT.
